The 8th meeting of the SPRFMO Scientific Committee (SC8) will be held virtually between 3 and 8 October 2020.
The meeting was initially was intended to be hosted by New Zealand in its capital city, but due to travel restrictions and closed boundaries in many countries prompted by COVID-19, the New Zealand government informed SPRFMO that it would host the meeting online, following the trend of other international organisations.
New Zealand and the SPRFMO Secretariat have worked to identify the most suitable web platform to fit the requirements of the Scientific Committee, with Microsoft Teams being the selected tool.
A series of pre-SC8 web meetings split by thematic areas (Jack mackerel, Deepwater, Squid, Habitat Monitoring) to coordinate and prioritise the work of the SC and the SC8 agenda items are being held via Microsoft Teams, thus also giving participants the opportunity to become familiar with the platform.
SPRFMO and the government of New Zealand, as the host of the meeting, are encouraging members of the Scientific Committee to register for the meeting using the online form and to submit their letters of credentials as soon as possible.
