CMM 03 Management of Bottom Fishing in the SPRFMO Convention Area

CMM 03 (Bottom Fishing) aims, through the application of the precautionary approach and an ecosystem approach to fisheries management, to ensure the long-term conservation and sustainable use of deep sea fishery resources, including target fish stocks as well as nontarget or associated and dependent species, and, in doing so, to safeguard the marine ecosystems in which these resources occur, including inter alia the prevention of significant adverse impacts on vulnerable marine ecosystems. CMM 03 establishes Bottom Trawl, Mid-water trawl and Bottom line Management areas. Each Member or CNCP proposing to participate in bottom fishing activities shall submit to the Scientific Committee a proposed assessment that meets the SPRFMO Bottom Fishery Impact Assessment Standard with the best available data including consideration of cumulative impacts.
