After adopting the Convention, the Eighth Meeting of the International Consultations decided to make the necessary arrangements for the commencement of the functions of the Commission of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation.

A Preparatory Conference for this purpose has been convened by the Depositary of the Convention.

The first session took place in Auckland, New Zealand between 19 - 23 July 2010.
The second session took place in Cali, Colombia between 24 - 28 January 2011.
The third session took place in Santiago, Chile between 30 January - 3 February 2012.

The functions of the Preparatory Conference are specified in the Resolution Establishing a Preparatory Conference.
