2022-07-07

The Republic of Panama becomes the 16th Member of SPRFMO

The Government of Panama deposited its Instrument of Accession in respect of the SPRFMO Convention on 7 June 2022 and as of today becomes the 16th Member of SPRFMO.

Panama has shown its commitment to theĀ Convention on theĀ Conservation and Management of High Seas Fishery Resources in the South Pacific Ocean, by actively participating in SPRFMO meetings, complying with the conservation and management measures adopted by the Commission as well as by offering to host SPRFMO meetings .

Panama first attended a SPRFMO Commission meeting in 2014 in Ecuador as an Observer State; in 2015, Panama applied for, and was granted, Cooperating non-Contracting Party status.

Congratulations to Panama for taking this important step, which will contribute to ensuring the long-term conservation and sustainable use of fishery resources in the South Pacific Ocean.
