6th Global Fisheries Enforcement Training Workshop (GFETW)

The Department of Fisheries of Thailand and the International Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) Network for Fisheries-related Activities will convene the 6^th Global Fisheries Enforcement Training Workshop (GFETW) in Bangkok, Thailand on 18 February through 22 February 2019. The focus of the 6^th GFETW will be on global cooperation between flag, coastal, port and market States for effective collective enforcement of international and domestic law. Regional and global collective efforts in combatting IUU fishing using effective MCS management tools, including enforcement powers by all countries involved, are indispensable to ensure compliance and to combat IUU fishing.

Established in 2001, the goal of the International MCS Network is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of fisheries-related MCS activities through enhanced cooperation, coordination, information collection and exchange between national and multilateral organizations and institutions responsible for fisheries-related MCS. Today the Network comprises almost 60-member countries, two RFMOs and the European Commission.
